Stina Henslee

My work combines darkly humorous playful imagery with visceral, at times violent truths. Since the pandemic, I have been developing my own personal collection of symbology that is rooted in my strict Evangelical childhood and a longing to return to the innocence and purity of childhood. My newest pieces are visual representations of Tension - a feeling we have all been inundated with in the last few years - as we grapple with political, viral and societal unknowns. I use a variety of materials (ink, spray paint, string, collage, vinyl, graphite, acrylic, etc.) and am particularly drawn to juxtapositions between tight, controlled line work and looser paint strokes. While personal and vulnerable in nature, I hope that my work resonates with the public and fosters healing and understanding.
