Andonia Giannakouros

Statement

My work uses repetition and patterning to tell stories from my personal narrative. Depictions of recognizable objects as symbols connect the themes of my paintings with the associations and experiences of the viewer. The physical properties of oil paint and its possibilities are endless and fascinating. Experimenting on different surfaces and with a diverse group of mediums is central to my art. When planning a piece, I consider the story I am trying to tell and how I can best activate the space to share that story and its ambience. The colors that I use tend to be bright and saturated; varying from the brightest cadmium yellow to a deep chromatic black. I aim to create beautiful objects, paintings and prints, that distill a feeling or a moment of a story.
