Artist Statement DAVID ZAHN
Creating art has always been part of my life. The human form is often the center of my
work, and the abstract elements of art are just as important to me as any subject matter
I may be portraying. I strive to make pieces that have a timeless quality, contain strong
aesthetics, and are a mystery for the viewer. Realism can be part of my sculptures and
it is often blended with other forms to create an interesting, thought provoking image. I
love the idea of a relic from another time or place and the magic of things unknown. It is
a purposeful twist that some of my pieces are made to look futuristic, and appear as a
relic from the past at the same time. The exciting thing for me is the evolution of my
work over the years. New themes and motifs arise, past ideas resurface in new ways,
and the relationship with the materials grows richer and the images more personal.
